Updates
Our primary objective as a board is to provide the best possible organization for the youth of Wadsworth to play baseball. To that end, we are making a few adjustments for 2022. Thank you for your feedback and continued support.
The Hit Warehouse:
We have formed a relationship with one of the area’s top baseball training facilities. This organization is run by incredibly talented coaches including Bill Gearhart, a First Team All American in college and former 12-year coach at WHS. Their facilities include The Hit Warehouse (329 Johnson Rd) and Hit24 (350 State St). This relationship has helped us fill several gaps.
• First, it allows us to expand our offering to include off-season training opportunities (free and reduced rate opportunities).
• Second, it provides an independent third party to evaluate player skills as part of team assembly process.
• Third, it provides for a coaches clinic to equip our coaches with the tools they need to be successful.
Team Assembly: The objective is to evenly distribute talent so every game is competitive. Players will be evaluated by a third party and teams will be selected using a serpentine draft model.
Player development: Developing the proper skills in youth baseball is paramount. We are making several changes:
• Providing off-season workout opportunities (see our website).
• Providing a coaches clinic for all coaches.
• Providing practice guides for all coaches.
• Practice schedules will include some combined practices to get the players more field time.
Rule changes: Our rules from Spring to Fall seasons will now remain consistent. Historically, the rules were adjusted for the Fall to make it more developmental. With the adjustments above for player development, we will keep the rules consistent. Rules will be updated on our website at the start of Spring registration and reviewed with ALL coaches during the Spring coaches meeting.
Tournament play: We are exploring local tournament opportunities to be played in July, between the Spring and Fall seasons for 10U, 12U, and 15U. Players would tryout to make the teams and test their skills against other area rec tournament teams. More information to come.
Umpires: The national umpire shortage of 2021 is expected to continue into 2022. Local umpiring services are unable to field enough umpires to cover the amount of games we play. We are in the process of building and training our own umpiring staff. If you know of anyone looking for a great summer job, please send them our way.
